Natalie Symons is a writer and actress. She has been acting on the stage since she was a kid in Buffalo, New York. After studying theatre at Boston University she moved to Seattle, Washington where she and a friend from Buffalo founded Semo Theatre Company, which garnered both popular and critical success in the mid 1990’s.
“Natalie Symons and Rachel Balowitz can’t possibly sustain an entire career at this high energy level. See them before they burn out. This is the kind of fringe theatre you hope for: an undervalued stock before the market finds out. Need some laughs and irresistible emotion see this for some up close magic.” – Doug VanDerhoff Seattle Weakly
Natalie also worked on many other stages around the Pacific Northwest. Some favorite roles include Savage in John Patrick Shanley’s Savage in Limbo (Belltown Theatre Center), Myst in Out of Gas on Lover’s Leap (Belltown Theatre Center), Treat in Orphans (Northwest Actors Studio) Tillie in The Effects of Gamma Rays on Man in the Moon Marigolds (Northwest Actors Studio) and Brenda in the long running Four Dogs and a Bone (Moonlight Theatre Company; Sun Valley Repertory nexStage Theatre).
Recently Natalie completed a BS in interdisciplinary studies at the State University of New York, Empire State College, a degree which integrated her enthusiasm for the arts with her interest in moral philosophy. It was while enrolled there that she began to write. In giving thought to why she writes, or to speak directly of her drive to write is perhaps nothing more than an admission of a need to gain perspective on the world in which we are entwined. She believes art, in all its forms, is a representation of the reality of which characterizes the artist’s fundamental view of man’s nature.
Natalie is the author of several short stories and essays. Her play Lark Eden (Booktrope) received its World Premier at Seattle’s beloved Theater Schmeater in the spring of 2011. It subsequently ran at New American Theater in St. Petersburg, Florida in the summer of 2011. Due to popular demand Lark Eden re-opened on September 22nd, 2011 at New American Theatre; and early next year it will be presented as part of the 2012 season at Theater Schmeater. The script is available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
Natalie currently resides in Tampa, Florida. She is at work on a novel; a coming of age story set against the backdrop of a forgotten steel town in Western Pennsylvania.
